The Library will be having a special author visit and book signing by Linda Bestinger McCann. She will be sharing her book Civilian Conservation Corps In Northeast Iowa with the book discussion group on September 21 at 6:30 p.m.   At 7:00 p.m. Linda will give a presentation, answer questions and autograph books.  The Civilian Conservation Corps was a federal program that operated from 1933-1942. It operated in all states, and centered around an effort to put young men to work in order to assist their families. The men were usually 17 to 23 years of age, and were generally completely inexperienced. Most people know of how the CC impacted the State of Iowa through our State Parks, as many of the parks have dams that were built by the CCC. The CCC here in our state worked most often to prevent erosion. The men usually planted trees and built terraces. This book will be the first in a series documenting the CCC in Iowa. We are pleased to have Linda visit our library and speak about her book.  This program is free and open to the public.

This resource is supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act as administered by State Library of Iowa.
